What is Battery Repacking?
The old battery (which is generally sealed) is opened with specialised equipment and techniques, and all of the cells are replaced (using a specialised electronic welder) with brand new top quality Japanese Ni-Cad, NiMH or LiIon cells to give it the capacity and life of a brand new battery.
A battery pack is made up of a number of 1.2 volt rechargeable cells connected with welded tags.
Repacking batteries cannot be done successfully by hobbyists using a soldering iron.
After installation of the new cells, the battery packs are closed and sealed and are finished and polished to bring them up to a near new appearance.
The repacked batteries will then be in the operating condition of a new battery.
In many cases it is possible to increase the milli-Ampere-hour (mAh) Capacity of a new battery by replacing the old cells with cells of a higher capacity. This means a longer working time before recharging is necessary and longer working life because of fewer recharges.
How do you Save?
Across the board, the price of repacking to the customer is around 50% to 60% of the retail cost of a new battery. In some cases, such as with Laptop computers, the savings are much higher.
Apart from the cost savings for customers there are many cases where some battery packs are no longer available in the market due to the age of appliances and repacking is the only alternative to discarding a completely reliable appliance.
